Bloomfield Coffee Still Prospering
The Bloomfield Company began in 1933 in a 2000-square-foot plant in Chicago, in the heart of the Great Depression, when Samuel Bloomfield began manufacturing display and pie cases there. His sons Harold and Daniel also helped him in the business. By 1941, their expanding business had grown to such proportions that they were able to expand their space into a 55,000-square-foot building.
In 1961, Bloomfield bought the Proctor-Silex Company's commercial division, adding coffee makers to its ever-growing product line. The Beatrice Foods Company then bought Bloomfield three years later but Bloomfield continued to operate under its own name and with independent management. The investment firm Specialty Equipment Companies, Inc. (SEC) bought Bloomfield along with four other companies owned by Beatrice in 1984, and then in 1993 SEC relocated Bloomfield in Verdi, Nevada and merged it with its also-owned Wells Manufacturing to create Wells/Bloomfield.
Today, among Bloomfield's most prominent product offerings are several for coffee drinkers and servers of coffee in the food services or travel industry including: makers, warmers, grinders, decanters, and pots made of quality glass, thanks in part to its ability to access the manufacturing power of Wells Manufacturing and to Bloomfield's steady interest in the food services products industry. The company has established a reputation for being on the leading edge of high quality automation in coffee brewing.
Bloomfield is a leading manufacturer of coffee makers with highly efficient EBC (Electronic Brew Control) systems. According to the U.S. Patent Office, this is "a control system for a coffee brewer having a microprocessor in which the water heated in the heater tank must be a predetermined temperature before brewing. A double brewing cycle is prevented. Upon the system not being activated for a period of time, i.e., the water temperature is allowed to drop a greater magnitude for energy saving and component protection."
There are many features of coffee makers or brewers that Bloomfield has pioneered or taken to another level, earning it its reputation for manufacturing some of the highest quality coffee brewers to be found for commercial use and in the home and private office setting where commercial makers are being used more now than ever. For starters, Bloomfield's coffee makers are touted for their After Hours Mode feature, which is part of its EBC standards and does a great job of reducing water temperature when the pot isn't in use; this saves energy while extending the longevity of the brewing unit. Another party of this system is the company's brew cycle timer, which does away with the risk of double brewing.
Also with regard to the brewing cycle, a very precise brewing temperature is reached and then maintained. Richly flavored coffee is ensured with this technology, as well as "cold brew lockout" and faster brewer recovery. Again this also adds to the longevity of the unit. Bloomfield coffee makers also come with a Ready to Brew light to indicate the correct water temperature for brewing coffee so that its flavor is made as tasty as possible. And its Countdown Quality Timer technology will indicate the end of a preset coffee holding time.
An advanced sprayhead design makes certain that the water gets spread out over the coffee grounds in the basket, which adds even more to the richness of the coffee's flavor by having the water filter through every ground of coffee and not just the ones toward the middle.
These and other features--including good pricing--keep Bloomfield's coffee company prospering today.
